Avoid sarcasm .

Firstly, let’s understand  that children with autism struggle with social interactions and communication. They might have difficulty understanding sarcasm, figurative language, or even subtle hints. So, it is crucial for us to be clear and direct in our communication.

# Be clear and direct. #

While giving instructions and asking questions , be precise and specific. Instead of saying “Could you please tidy up?”, try saying “Please put your toys back in the toy box”. By being clear and concise , you are helping them understand exactly what is expected of them.

# Say what you mean. #

Avoid using idioms and metaphors as they can be confusing. Instead of saying “It’s raining cats and dogs outside”, simply say “It’s raining heavily”. This way you are providing  straightforward without any hidden meaning.

# Be straight forward.#

Another crucial aspect  is using visual aids. Many children with autism are visual learners , so incorporating visual supports can greatly enhance their understanding. Pictures , charts  or even gestures can be useful to support communication.
