On International Women’s Day (March 8), I celebrate the strength, creativity, and resilience of autistic women everywhere. For many years, autistic women and girls have been overlooked or misunderstood. Many receive diagnoses later in life because autism can present differently in women, and too often their experiences have been missed or dismissed. Despite this, autistic women continue to thrive, advocate, and reshape how the world understands neurodiversity.
Autistic women are leaders, carers, innovators, artists, professionals, and advocates. They bring honesty, deep focus, empathy, creativity, and unique perspectives that enrich our communities and workplaces. Today is a reminder that inclusion must mean all women— including neurodivergent women — are recognised, supported, and valued.
Let’s continue to listen to autistic voices, challenge outdated stereotypes, and create a world where autistic girls grow up knowing they don’t need to hide who they are.
Happy International Women’s Day to all autistic women and girls. Your voice matters. Your perspective matters. You matter.
